Our Pledge

The result of Coronavirus for elderly people is severe. Older people are forced to the stay at home and many of them have no support. This kind of isolation can be incredibly tough for many and can have a huge impact on mental health.

For the month of April, we will donate 100% of profits to charities helping older people at home. There are amazing charities working with older people to tackle loneliness and support them with food and prescription deliveries. All profit from Irish and European orders will go 100% to Alone. UK orders will see 100% of profits go to Age UK.

Our Why

Most of us have loved ones who have been isolated at home for weeks now. They are the lucky ones; they have families checking in on them to make sure they are doing ok. I know I have been FaceTiming my Granny more than ever (yes, my Granny in her late eighties has FaceTime - what a legend!).

But what about the elderly people who have no-one? I can't imagine how much tougher it would be for my own Granny if she didn't have us checking in on her, and telling her we cannot wait to see her for a hug soon.

That's where these amazing charities come in. They not only help elderly people with supplies, such as food and medicine, but they provide them with services to fight the harsh emptiness that comes with living alone during this time.

In order to be fully transparent, from a commercial business perspective it doesn't make much sense to donate all profits to charity - especially seeing as we are in our very early days as a brand. However, our business is suffering hugely anyway. The travel industry plummeted overnight and with that so did backpack sales. No sales means SunDrift is not making profit due to Covid-19 anyway.

But travel will bounce back and we will all be able to explore again soon - so for us it makes sense to encourage you to buy your backpack now. You can get excited for what lies ahead when everything gets back to normal, and you can support an amazing cause along the way.

As a business, we still won't be profiting but we will be able to help others during this time. And that, to us at SunDrift, is more important than ever.
